RJ SMITH
CNC PROGRAMMER & MACHINIST
RJ Smith brings 15 years of machining experience to TITANS of CNC, along with a deep passion for precision, problem solving, and continuous growth. Originally from Tehachapi, California, and now living in Plano, Texas, RJ moved his family to Texas in 2021 in search of new opportunities, a fresh adventure, and a better future.
RJ began his machining career at 21 when his father gave him an opportunity at XCOR Aerospace. With no prior experience, he started as a manual machinist and quickly realized he had found the trade he was meant to pursue. From there, he advanced into CNC machining and programming, building a career rooted in curiosity, adaptability, and a constant drive to learn.
Throughout his career, RJ has worked across high-level aerospace, space, and medical manufacturing, with experience connected to organizations such as NASA, Virgin Galactic, XCOR Aerospace, and Orthofix Medical. His machine experience is broad and impressive, including Haas, ProtoTRAK, Hurco, DMG MORI, FANUC, Tsugami, and Citizen equipment. He has worked across everything from multi-axis vertical and horizontal machining centers to two-axis lathes, Swiss machines, and Wire EDM systems.
RJ’s most recent focus has been in Swiss machining and Wire EDM, though his passion extends across the full spectrum of CNC manufacturing. He enjoys the challenge of it all, from multi-axis milling to highly intricate Swiss work. His material experience includes aluminum, PEEK, Delrin, copper, steel, stainless steels both hardened and non-hardened, titanium, and Inconel. That broad technical foundation has made him a versatile machinist capable of adapting to a wide range of manufacturing challenges.
Pursuing mastery of machining isn’t just about making parts, it’s about pushing precision to its limits. And when we achieve that precision, we elevate every industry we touch. Every part we create helps advance the future and supports all who rely on it.
Some of the most demanding work in RJ’s career has involved highly detailed medical components produced on Swiss machines, particularly parts requiring micro-milling and thread whirling. He understands firsthand how unforgiving that work can be, where even the smallest mistake often means starting over entirely. He has also worked on large-scale components, including a laser enclosure for Raytheon, giving him experience across both microscopic precision and larger complex assemblies.
What drives RJ is the belief that CNC machining is the backbone of modern manufacturing. To him, without machining, modern industry simply would not exist. That is one of the reasons working at TITANS of CNC means so much. He values the opportunity to help teach people not only how to machine, but why the work matters. He believes strongly in the mission of making world-class manufacturing education available for free, and he is proud to be part of a team that takes that mission seriously while still bringing energy, enthusiasm, and fun to the work.
RJ approaches the trade with humility, positivity, and a constant desire to learn something new. He respects people who are passionate about developing real skill, and that same mindset shapes the way he works every day. Rather than focusing on a single specialty, he takes pride in being versatile, adaptable, and ready to tackle whatever challenge is in front of him. He is drawn to difficult parts that force him to think differently, challenge assumptions, and ask one powerful question: why not?
That spirit of curiosity, growth, and technical range is exactly what RJ brings to TITANS of CNC and to the global manufacturing community.
